- LETTERS, Page 6An Oddball Business

- Our report on Jeff Weber's service of freeze-drying the
- deceased pets of fond owners (AMERICAN SCENE, Feb. 13) stirred
- up considerable interest and some ire among our readers. Many
- were distressed at the idea of preserving dead animals, but
- others, including one who had a pet kitty "in the freezer," were
- eager to contact Weber. George Spears in Payson, Ariz., taking
- note from the story that humans too can be freeze-dried, found
- this 1935 cartoon by James Thurber to be perfectly up to date.
